Tim Cook Is Highest-Paid CEO in the History of Highest-Paid CEOs
21/5/2012 external link
The next time you’re out to dinner with Tim Cook and all of his iFriends, you shouldn’t bat an eye if he offers to pick up the tab for your meal. He can afford it. Many times over, in fact. According to the survey of annual CEO earnings done by the Wall Street Journal, Cook’s $376.2 million puts the Apple CEO at the top of the list of highest-paid CEOs in 2011. More, Cook’s compensation from last year is also the highest ever recorded by Journal since they started keeping up with these sorts of details. Cook’s ridiculous level of wealth is built almost entirely on the million shares of restricted Apple stock Cook he has claim on. Cook isn’t allowed to sell off any of his stock until 2016 when he will be permitted to sell as much as half his shares, and then he won’t be able to sell the other half until 2021. Do not feel bad for Mr. Cook because he is stuck with all that old Apple stock. While he might have tons of money now, having to hold onto those shares for several more years might be the best possible outcome for the CEO. These days, the price of Apple shares hovers around the $560 mark, but some speculators are shooting for the moon with the next iPhone. Some analysts think that the launch of the iPhone 5 might be enough to catapult Apple’s stock above $1,001 per share. So yeah. If that’s even a microcosmic possibility of happening, “forcing” Tim Cook to hold onto the stock is the best thing to ever be forced onto anyone. More, if Apple shares do hulk out above $1,000 while Cook has a million shares of Apple, he should be politely asked to move on to another planet because he will officially be too wealthy to actually be considered One of Us anymore. Or, he could at least buy everybody some Spicy Chili Cheese Nachos the next time we bump into him at Applebee’s. He could stick around then.

And saying that it has “Minority Report like interactions” is not far from the truth at all. Right now they are taking applications for developers, and I really wish I was a developer, cause this thing will have some really cool uses. Leap has received over a thousand requests from developers, but they are expecting that number to grow exponentially now that it is getting some major news coverage. So.cl Does Not Have Any Impact On Bing’s Social Graph

Earlier, we looked at So.cl, Microsoft’s new(ish) social network, which seems to be something of a testing ground for interactions between search and social media. While some of So.cl may look familiar to Bing users (or those who have read about the recent Bing redesign), and some of the features may one day make their way to Bing, So.cl currently has no impact on Bing’s current social features. Duane Forrester answered a user question on Twitter: .ditto204624161908330497 {background: #8F8D8E url(http://a0.twimg.com/profile_background_images/446733975/NEW-twitter-bg.jpg) no-repeat;padding: 20px;}.ditto204624161908330497 a {color: #A5C53E;}p.dittoTweet {background: #fff;padding: 10px 12px 10px 50px;margin: 0;min-height: 48px;color: #000;font-size: 22px !important;font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif;line-height: 30px;-moz-border-radius: 5px;-webkit-border-radius: 5px;}span.metadata {display: block;width: 100%;clear: both;margin-top: 8px;padding: 12px 0px;height: 65px;}span.metadata span.author {line-height: 20px;color: #333;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;}.tweet {font-size: 24px;}span.metadata span.author img {float: left;margin: 0px 7px 0px 0px;}a:hover {text-decoration: underline;}span.timestamp {font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12px;display: block;color: #999;margin: 10px 0 0 0;line-height: 25px;}span.timestamp a {color: #999;text-decoration: none;}span.timestamp a > span {display: inline-block;width: 16px;background-image: url(http://images.ientrymail.com/socialditto/everything-spritev2.png);background-repeat: no-repeat;}span.timestamp a.twitreply > span {background-position: 0px 3px;}span.timestamp a.twitreply:hover > span {background-position: -16px 3px;}span.timestamp a.favorite > span {background-position: -32px 2px;}span.timestamp a.favorite:hover > span {background-position: -48px 2px;}span.timestamp a.retweet > span {background-position: -80px 3px;}span.timestamp a.retweet:hover > span {background-position: -96px 3px;}p.indent {margin-left: 20px;}.at-name a, .at-name a:visited, .at-name a:hover {color: #999;text-decoration: none;font-size: 14px;font-weight: normal;}.dittodownarrow {width: 0;height: 0;border-left: 20px solid transparent;border-right: 20px solid transparent;border-top: 20px solid #EEE;margin: 0 0 0 73px;} !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id))}(document,"script","twitter-wjs"); Follow @mwilton13 Mike Wilton @mwilton13 @DuaneForrester will this so.cl thing impact the social graph of Bing search at all? 3 hours ago via Seesmic · powered by @socialditto  Reply  · Retweet  · Favorite .ditto204667736234803200 {background: #022330 url(http://a0.twimg.com/images/themes/theme15/bg.png) no-repeat;padding: 20px;}.ditto204667736234803200 a {color: #0084B4;}p.dittoTweet {background: #fff;padding: 10px 12px 10px 50px;margin: 0;min-height: 48px;color: #000;font-size: 22px !important;font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif;line-height: 30px;-moz-border-radius: 5px;-webkit-border-radius: 5px;}span.metadata {display: block;width: 100%;clear: both;margin-top: 8px;padding: 12px 0px;height: 65px;}span.metadata span.author {line-height: 20px;color: #333;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;}.tweet {font-size: 24px;}span.metadata span.author img {float: left;margin: 0px 7px 0px 0px;}a:hover {text-decoration: underline;}span.timestamp {font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12px;display: block;color: #999;margin: 10px 0 0 0;line-height: 25px;}span.timestamp a {color: #999;text-decoration: none;}span.timestamp a > span {display: inline-block;width: 16px;background-image: url(http://images.ientrymail.com/socialditto/everything-spritev2.png);background-repeat: no-repeat;}span.timestamp a.twitreply > span {background-position: 0px 3px;}span.timestamp a.twitreply:hover > span {background-position: -16px 3px;}span.timestamp a.favorite > span {background-position: -32px 2px;}span.timestamp a.favorite:hover > span {background-position: -48px 2px;}span.timestamp a.retweet > span {background-position: -80px 3px;}span.timestamp a.retweet:hover > span {background-position: -96px 3px;}p.indent {margin-left: 20px;}.at-name a, .at-name a:visited, .at-name a:hover {color: #999;text-decoration: none;font-size: 14px;font-weight: normal;}.dittodownarrow {width: 0;height: 0;border-left: 20px solid transparent;border-right: 20px solid transparent;border-top: 20px solid #EEE;margin: 0 0 0 73px;} !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id))}(document,"script","twitter-wjs"); Follow @DuaneForrester duane forrester @DuaneForrester @mwilton13 So.cl is not included at this time. It’s just been a Duane Forrester kind of day. We also looked at some advice he gave regarding Google’s Penguin and Panda updates in a different article, as well as his suggestion that you should be using Pinterest. On that note, its interesting that Pinterest isn’t mentioned on Forrester’s list of Bing’s social focal points. Perhaps he was hinting at the future. A Pinterest-based image search integration could be cool.
Star Wars Geometry Is Not A L7 Weenie

Star Wars fans get the trophy for the second most dedicated fans there are (Trekkies win….nerds, LOL). They have fantastic art to show that is inspired by the vast expanded universe. The art that I have seen seems to have no bounds and really has seemed to infect all parts of society. Ashraf Omar from Behance, Malaysia has created his own Star Wars interpretation using lines and angles instead of the traditional methods of making them life like. He used Adobe Illustrator on his Macbook to create these drawings. Check out the drawings below and check out his page to see all of the other great paintings he has created. Student Teacher Obama Debate Caught on YouTube
21/5/2012 external link
At North Rowan High School in Spencer, NC a teacher refuses to let a student “Disrespect President Obama”. Let’s check out the classroom in this YouTube clip. The Fact of the Day was “Did you know Mit Romney was a bully in high school?” (I can only assume the teacher gives some sort of current events fact everyday), which is an actual news story. The student thought this Fact of the Day was leaning left. The student speaks up saying, “Wasn’t Obama a bully in high school?” This statement is immediately followed by a screech of “we dont disrespect the president”. The student does not back down from his statement while keeping his voice to a respectable level. This is especially true in comparison to the teacher’s voice. The young student was trying to give the other side of the coin. The teacher’s whole argument was that the current president should be treated better than the man who will be running against him come election time. This is an opinion not a fact. Whether you agree with the teacher’s argument or not, we all know that’s not how campaigns work. If you go back and dissect anyone’s past, you will find something to write about. In this case the subject is high school bullying. The student was simply saying there was a story about Obama where he pushed a girl in high school. Meanwhile the fact of the day was a story about Mit Romney pinning a classmate down and cutting his long hair. Both stories are obviously not flattering towards the presidential candidates. The student thought that if one story was presented in a classroom setting, then the other should be too.
MacBook Pro Prices Drop Ahead Of Refresh
21/5/2012 external link
We’ve been bringing you reports for awhile now that Apple was preparing to launch a major update to their MacBook Pro line of computers. Rumored features include a retina display, USB 3.0, and a thinner (though not MacBook Air-like) form factor, which will involve ditching the computer’s optical drive (because who uses CD-ROMs anymore, honestly?). While nothing has been confirmed yet, regarding either the features or even the fact that a new line is coming, there has been some strong evidence. First, supplies of the MacBook Pro started to run low. That’s always a good sign that something new is coming. Another strong indicator is when retailers start lowering the price of their existing inventory. That, it seems, is what’s happening now at Best Buy. They’ve reduced the price of all models of MacBook Pro (13-inch, 15-inch, and 17-inch) by $100: The fact that Best Buy is starting to reduce the price of their inventory – even by $100 which, let’s face it, isn’t a lot in this context – is perhaps the best evidence yet that the line will be getting a refresh. Current speculation puts the new MacBook Pro line (along with updates to the iMac and MacBook Air, possibly) coming sometime over the summer, possibly as early as June. There’s a decent chance that they’ll release alongside OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. The release date for Mountain Lion is expected to be one of the big pieces of news to come out of this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, which is scheduled for June 11-15 in San Francisco.
Anonymous Leaks Bureau Of Justice Database
21/5/2012 external link
Aside from a few international operations and participating in the NATO protests currently happening in Chicago, Anonymous has been pretty quiet. That all changed today as Anonymous has leaked the database for the Bureau of Justice. The 1.7 GB file contains what Anonymous calls “shiny things such as internal emails and the entire database dump.” They claimed that the Bureau of Justice took down their Web site as a sign of acknowledging the hack. In classic Anonymous fashion, they have released another video that details the entire attack. The reason behind the attack is thus: We do not stand for any government or parties, we stand for freedom of people, freedom of speech and freedom of information. We are releasing data to spread information, to allow the people to be heard and to know the corruption in their government. We are releasing it to end the corruption that exists, and truly make those who are being oppressed free. The price we pay very often is our own freedom. The price governments pay is the exposure of their corruption and the truth being revealed, for the truth will set us free in the end. So once more we call on you. Hackers, activists, and freedom fighters; join us in our struggle against these corporate hypocrites. I will say that Anonymous has gotten much better at creating videos. It was only a few weeks ago that they would just post their message and be on their way. Now they’re making videos full of special effects with star lions and Anonymous imagery. Oh, and before you ask, the database leak is real and is hosted on The Pirate Bay. We won’t link to it, but it’s easy enough to find. It remains to be seen if there’s actually anything incriminating in it since the Bureau of Justice is just an arm of the Department of Justice that collects stats on crime. It’s also worth noting that this leak seems to be part of a new movement called #MondayMailMayhem or #MMM for short. The verdict is out on whether or not it’s related to #FuckFBIFriday.

Twitter Has Fun With Stan Van Gundy Firing
21/5/2012 external link
Ending a relationship that had turned ugly, the Orlando Magic fired head coach Stan Van Gundy today, while relieving general manager Otis Smith from his duties. In other words, the Magic cleaned house in an effort to get Dwight Howard to stay around longer than just next season. As indicated, the relationship between the head coach and the star player got a little ugly when Van Gundy publicly responded to rumors that Howard had asked the Magic front office to fire the coach. Naturally, YouTube/everywhere that covers sports captured this episode for all to see: From there, it was only a matter of time before one of the two left town, and considering just how much more pull these mega-talented players have over their coaches, logic suggested Van Gundy would be the one leaving town before Howard. Now, that reality has come to fruition, with the GM thrown in to boot. Considering the popularity of the NBA on Twitter, an overload of reaction was expected. To illustrate this point, Van Gundy has not one, but two Twitter trends discussing his departure. The reaction has been a pretty entertaining read, all things considered: .ditto204673977472397313 {background: #C0DEED url(http://a0.twimg.com/profile_background_images/72478850/nba_on_nbc.jpg) no-repeat;padding: 20px;}.ditto204673977472397313 a {color: #0084B4;}p.dittoTweet {background: #fff;padding: 10px 12px 10px 50px;margin: 0;min-height: 48px;color: #000;font-size: 22px !important;font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif;line-height: 30px;-moz-border-radius: 5px;-webkit-border-radius: 5px;}span.metadata {display: block;width: 100%;clear: both;margin-top: 8px;padding: 12px 0px;height: 65px;}span.metadata span.author {line-height: 20px;color: #333;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;}.tweet {font-size: 24px;}span.metadata span.author img {float: left;margin: 0px 7px 0px 0px;}a:hover {text-decoration: underline;}span.timestamp {font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12px;display: block;color: #999;margin: 10px 0 0 0;line-height: 25px;}span.timestamp a {color: #999;text-decoration: none;}span.timestamp a > span {display: inline-block;width: 16px;background-image: url(http://images.ientrymail.com/socialditto/everything-spritev2.png);background-repeat: no-repeat;}span.timestamp a.twitreply > span {background-position: 0px 3px;}span.timestamp a.twitreply:hover > span {background-position: -16px 3px;}span.timestamp a.favorite > span {background-position: -32px 2px;}span.timestamp a.favorite:hover > span {background-position: -48px 2px;}span.timestamp a.retweet > span {background-position: -80px 3px;}span.timestamp a.retweet:hover > span {background-position: -96px 3px;}p.indent {margin-left: 20px;}.at-name a, .at-name a:visited, .at-name a:hover {color: #999;text-decoration: none;font-size: 14px;font-weight: normal;}.dittodownarrow {width: 0;height: 0;border-left: 20px solid transparent;border-right: 20px solid transparent;border-top: 20px solid #EEE;margin: 0 0 0 73px;} !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id))}(document,"script","twitter-wjs"); Follow @basketballtalk Kurt Helin @basketballtalk Magic CEO trying to set a nice screen for Howard, saying DH never asked him to fire Stan Van Gundy. Samsung Galaxy S III Easily Rooted
21/5/2012 external link
It was never in doubt that Samsung’s new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S III, would be rooted, allowing consumers to remove Samsung’s TouchWiz interface and install custom ROMs. What was unexpected was that the root would happen more than a week before its European launch date. Last Friday evening, while the whole world was still speculating about Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook’s IPO, a user on the XDA Developers forum named Chainfire posted the keys to the Galaxy S III kingdom. Chainfire detailed the process for rooting the phone, calling the process “trivial.” From the post: This root is, as expected, trivial. It was a simple matter of repacking the stock kernel, with a modified adbd binary that thinks ro.secure=0 (even if ro.secure=1). This gives access to all adb root commands (see screenshots). Then SuperSU was installed manually. Later on Saturday, after verifying that it was not tracable, Chainfire updated the post with a link to the insecure kernel. As was the case with the Galaxy S and Galaxy S II, the bootloader for the Galaxy S III was already unlocked. Nearly every exclusive aspect of the Galaxy S III has been leaked now, including the Android version of Flipboard and Samsung’s S-Voice – it’s Apple Siri competitor. Customers who root their phones will be able to install custom ROMs that are closer to a pure Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich experience. These ROMs often enable extra features for the Android operating system, or reenable features that may have been disabled by manufacturers or carriers, such as tethering. (XDA Forums Via the Inquirer)
