Yes, there are a few ripped Anchorman: The Legend Continues, aka Anchorman 2, trailers on YouTube (no link), but this one constitutes the official web release of a new teaser, and it debuted on Funny or Die. As far as teasers go, there isn’t much revealed about the movie itself, but it does a great job reintroducing into the characters that made us laugh until we cried. Well, a lot of us, anyway. Anyway, the gang’s all here, including Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Dave Joechner, and, of course, Will Ferrell. Oddly enough, according to the movie’s IMDB page, these are the only four confirmed actors for the sequel. It’s pretty obvious by now that I look forward to E3 like a kid looks forward to Christmas morning. It’s the most exciting time of the year and you’re probably just as hyped as I am. One of the more interesting shows this year will be coming from Nintendo as they have to prove to the world that the Wii U is something worth getting excited over. Nintendo is in a good position to make that possible as they are brining back their All-Access Programming from last year, but in some new ways. The most important element is the press conference that will be taking place on June 5 at 9 a.m. PST. The press conference will be live-streamed via Facebook, and for the first time ever, Nintendo will be partnering with Viacom to broadcast the press conference commercial free on MTV2 and Spike TV. “We don’t want anyone to miss the energy and excitement of this year’s E3 Expo,” said Cindy Gordon, Nintendo of America’s vice president of Corporate Affairs. “By offering different ways to tune in and follow all the Nintendo news, we aim to make fans all over the world feel like they’re right there with us at the show.” It doesn’t just stop at Facebook and television as Nintendo is taking advantage of every social network available to them. They will be using YouTube to post updates from the show floor during the entire convention. It will include looks at upcoming software and hardware as well as interviews with developers. Twitter will also play a big role with Nintendo of America’s Twitter account tweeting details all throughout the show. It will also be live tweeting announcements during the press conference for those who can’t watch it on Facebook or television. Lastly, Nintendo has opened its E3 Web site for all the world to see. It wil feature all the latest updates from the show floor. I assume it will also feature the same kind of videos from last year with Satoru Iwata interviewing developers working on 3DS/Wii U software. If anything, Nintendo is shaping up for this year to be something big. We’ll hopefully get all the major details on the Wii U this time around and be able to see some truly mind-blowing things. Social media has already proven that it’s one of the greatest bastions of free speech on the Internet. A lot of governments that don’t protect free speech hate social media because it’s so open. Countries like China block Twitter and Facebook because it allows people to be critical of the government. Pakistan has joined the ranks of countries that block social media. Reuters reports that Pakistan has now blocked access to Twitter starting today. The country’s Telecommunication Authority, Mohammed Yaseen, confirmed the block saying that people post “blasphemous content” to the micro-blogging site. He also said that the country has been in discussion with Twitter for some time now on trying to rid the site of blasphemous content. It seems strange that the entire country has lost access when Twitter already provides tools for countries to censor select Tweets. It makes it seem like the “blasphemous content” that Pakistan wanted to block wasn’t really blasphemous. Pakistan isn’t saying anything beyond what they told Reuters. What makes it even more strange that the country’s ISPs have been told to block Twitter, but were given no reason as well. This isn’t the first time that Pakistan has dabbled in trying to censor the Internet. The country blocked access to YouTube back in 2008 for the same reason – blasphemous content. The country has also recently taken up the idea of trying to create a country-wide firewall similar to China that would block access to sites that the government deems offensive. After numerous companies publicly refused to help Pakistan, the country seemed to have given up its hopes to censor the Internet. All of that back story makes this latest block all the more confusing. The country told Reuters that they would unblock Twitter after they had resolved problems with blasphemous content. Who knows when that will happen though? I’m sure Twitter wants to get access back up in Pakistan, but they also have to work out what is really blasphemous and what’s not. Blocking joke and criticism about Mohammed is understandable, but Twitter should make sure that Pakistan is not trying to block political dissent as well.

It can’t be easy to be the King’s daughter. Not only does Lisa Marie have an enormous legacy to live up to musically, she’s also been scrutinized her entire life because nothing she does is private. Of course, she hasn’t always chosen the most low-key ways to go about things; in 1994 she married Michael Jackson, perhaps the only other man in the world as famous as her father. The marriage lasted two years before she moved on to actor Nicholas Cage, which lasted a whopping 108 days. But Presley is moving to stamp her mark on the music industry in a different way than she set out to with her first album, “To Whom It May Concern” (2003), which she says wasn’t truly what she wanted to convey because it was full of defensive songs mixed with a bit of anger. “I made a lot of defensive and angry songs, probably anticipating what was expected of me and fighting against it … there was a lot of production and hiding behind things, not really wanting to lay myself out there because I was afraid or feeling too vulnerable,” she said. Her new album, “Storm and Grace”, is released this week and represents what Presley calls the quiet, calmed down side of her. She references her father briefly on the album by way of the song “Sticks and Stones”, touching on the fact that everyone expects her to live up to his name and talent, but for the most part it’s pure Americana, and it’s garnering good reviews so far. Presley’s performance on “American Idol” earlier this week, however, is getting some mixed reactions. Google, or at least Matt Cutts, may be congratulating Facebook on going public, but they are still rivals. They both want to connect the world in ways that allows them to service customers and sell ads. Google may think it has the home field advantage in specific areas, but Facebook has taken at least one Google property – Android. The NPD Group released a study yesterday on the eve of the Facebook IPO that found over three-fourths of all Android users use their phones to access Facebook. That’s more than any other social networking service which makes Facebook king of Android. The reach doesn’t just extend to the Facebook app, but also mobile Web access. Facebook’s app and Web reach are both sitting anywhere between 70 and 75 percent. That’s a massive number and one that the other social networking sites can’t even come close to matching. It was found that Twitter is sitting at second with only 23 percent reach in Web and 18 percent reach in apps. Google’s own service, Google+, has been lagging behind for the past nine months with only 16 percent reach in Web and 10 to 15 percent reach in apps. Facebook is also dominating the amount of time people spend on apps. Users spend roughly 15 minutes a day on Facebook via Android devices which translates to 470 minutes a month. The amount of people spend on Facebook is second only to games, but NPD points out that Facebook is used more often with the average user opening the app six times a day. “Ultimately, Facebook’s mobile success rests on delivering compelling mobile app and web experiences, and monetizing on these experiences,” said Linda Barrabee, research director, NPD Connected Intelligence. “In order to do this, Facebook needs to ensure that monetization efforts via advertising enhance and do not disrupt the mobile social consumer experience; and with Facebook’s IPO looming and trading expected to begin on May 18, all eyes are on the company.” Facebook has taken this lesson to heart as Mark Zuckerberg has recently commented on the Facebook mobile experience. He says that the rise in mobile use has led Facebook to rethink their strategy of how they utilize mobile. There are not as many ads in the mobile Facebook experience so they’re losing out on all that delicious ad revenue when so many people now access the site via mobile applications. While Facebook may be dominating the Android platform, Google can rest easy in the fact that they’re currently trading at $600 compared to Facebook’s $38. A funny letter, supposedly written by former president Ronald Reagan in 1984 to a teenage boy, is working its way around the web today after being tweeted by Shaun Usher. The letter was written in response to then 13-year old Andy Smith’s request for disaster-relief funds to clean up his room after his mother declared it a disaster and was apparently included in the book “Reagan: A Life In Letters“, which most agree shows a very different and compassionate side of the controversial president. Smith allegedly wrote, “Today my mother declared my bedroom a disaster area. I would like to request federal funds to hire a crew to clean up my room.” To which Reagan replied: Dear Andy: I’m sorry to be so late in answering your letter but as you know I’ve been in China and found your letter upon my return. Your application for disaster relief has been duly noted but I must point out one technical problem; the authority declaring the disaster is supposed to make the request. In this case your mother. However setting that aside I’ll have to point out the larger problem of available funds. This has been a year of disasters, 539 hurricanes as of May 4th and several more since, numerous floods, forest fires, drought in Texas and a number of earthquakes.
