An Internet safety study (PDF) just released by Cox Communications shows that teens may be a bit more safety conscious than previously thought.
The survey, which was done by Harris Interactive, asked 655 13- to 18-year-olds about their online and cell phone behavior, specifically addressing issues of cyberbullying and sexting. The study was in partnership with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and "America's Most Wanted Host" John Walsh.

Online Canadian teens are significantly more likely to have a social network profile than online Canadian adults, according to a new study from, Ipsos Reid.
Over three-quarters (76%) of online Canadian teens ages 12-17 now have a social network profile up from 50 percent in 2007. The rate of increase is higher than that for the online adult population, which increased from 39 percent to 56 percent over the same time period.

Research from Nielsen shows that time spent on Facebook is up 700% from a year ago (that's April '08 to April '09). Meanwhile, MySpace has experienced -31% year-over-year growth.

RSS has the highest value among Web 2.0 technologies, according to a Forrester Research report released Friday.
The research firm surveyed 275 IT decision-makers online between April and June.

Cash-strapped Brits are cutting back on online shopping and switching to budget bricks-and-mortar alternatives, according to new research.
The UK e-Retail report by retail analysts Verdict Research has found shoppers in less well-off social demographics are switching away from the web to shops such as Poundland, Primark and Matalan in order to avoid delivery costs on cheaper items such as clothes and homeware.

Web sales of smalls decreased by 26 per cent between April 2008 and April 2009 as cash-strapped Brits cut back on buying new knickers online, the research found. The figures come in stark contrast to the same period the year before, when lingerie sales swelled by 73 per cent.

U.S. ecommerce sales will decline for the first time this year, according to a revised forecast from eMarketer.
The firms revised forecast for ecommerce says consumers will spend 0.4 percent less online in 2009, falling to $133 billion.
"We're seeing a very sober picture - it's going to be rough this year," said Jeffrey Grau, a senior analyst at eMarketer told the New York Times. "However, maybe as early as next year, things will begin to pick up where they left off."

The leading 27 digital media companies in the world increased earnings by more than 20 percent, to $74 billion in 2008, up from $61.5 billion in 2007, according to new research from Strategy Analytics.
Out of the top five digital media companies globally, Apple's "Other Music Related Products and Services" segment, which includes iTunes, was best-in-class- growing 32.7 percent in 2008, while Yahoo saw positive growth, it grew the least with 3.4 percent.

The economy is causing online retailers to rethink their marketing strategies in order to acquire and retain customers, according to findings from "The State of Retailing Online 2009," study from Shop.org conducted by Forrester Research.
While Internet sales continue to outpace traditional retail sales, companies are realistic about current challenges. According to the survey, half of respondents (54%) expect overall retail growth to slow during the next 12 months and 57 percent say the economic slowdown
